FULL STOP
Hey! Do you love 'Full stops'? Yeah, F.U.L.L.S.T.O.P. Do you? Am I sounding strange or insane?
Oops, sorry. I shouldn't have started it this way.
Let's begin this post with a 'millionth times used' line: "There are two kinds of people on this earth. . ."
Firstly, I refer to those whose lives are comprised of contented and dull Full stops. Such people get satisfied easily. They, in greed of future fortune, live the present in a monotonous way. They are happy doing what they do. No change. Such people don't enjoy 'not bad' or 'okay' kind of life. They want perfect. In search of their 'perfect', they keep waiting and working, ignoring the little joys in life.
Secondly, there are people whose lives resemble a beautiful garden where aspiring and innovative 'Commas' and excited, zealous 'Exclamation marks' flourish. Such people keep on exploring themselves. They need amendments. They need updates. They cannot take working lifelessly to get their 'perfect'.
Okay, okay. Don't doubt my sanity and think deeply and coherently about the word 'full stop' and 'comma' and 'exclamation mark'. These aren't merely punctuation marks, but teach us a whole plethora of things.
I used to love 'Full stops' a lot. No confusion. No suspense. Just the end. Unlike commas and exclamations, there was nothing to worry about:where to place, when to place. Nothing. Pick it out and place it at the end. Simple!
Then, I met someone. Riya! Riya was the only daughter of my neighbour and the prettiest and the youngest friend of mine. She was the only girl I never envied. She was beautiful. She loved sketching. Strangely, I was good at something. Sketching! So, she used to come to my home regularly to show off her paintings to me, flicking her hair in air, possessing a 'No one can beat me. I'm the best' kind of attitude in her eyes, hungry for praise.
On one such regular day, when she came to me, I asked her what she wanted to do in her life once she grew up.
She began chanting. "I'll become the World's best artist. I'll try my hands on writing as my Dad says I write beautifully. I'll be an orator because my Mom says I talk way too much. I'll dance. I'll sing. I want to become a chef. I'll go for paragliding and.."
"Haha! Riya. . .
Stop. Stop. Put a full stop to your wish-list. You can't do everything you want. "
I still remember how her face shortened as my words weighed on her ears.
"Why do I need to put a full stop, Di?"
I couldn't answer her question. Why did I made such a statement? Of course, she can do whatever she wants to do. Everyone can do whatever he/she wants to do. Why stop?
That was the moment when I realized how wicked this full stop can be. The world around us has made us stick to this word.
"You've been divorced. You're worthless now. Seema, you've brought such inevitable shame to your family. Forget about your dream of becoming an artist. We're searching someone for you. Get married or else, your life would become a 'Full stop'."
The words of my parents hurled upon my ears, all over again.
A strong hatred took birth in my heart for the word' FULL STOP '. I decided I won't be a full stop anymore. I'll pursue my dream. I'll prove it to the world.
Hey! Listen. Yeah, you. Have commas. Have exclamations.
Never remain a full stop. NEVER.
Get excited for the upcoming movie of your favourite actor. Get confused between Vada-pav and Pav-vada (You'll get it if you've ever stayed in Maharashtra.) Get angry on your sibling for she has eaten your choco-lava cake , all alone. Ride. Drive. Feel the wind messing up your hair and eye makeup. Now, look at the rear-mirror, sneakingly. Oh! You're gorgeous. Wait. Stop, stop. Do you see that tip-top hot person posing in the hoarding? She/he is fake. They're all make-up. But, you're real. You're beautiful. Feel beautiful and adopt a new exclamation mark.
Did she break your heart? Cry. Cry audibly until you almost choke. And then buy an ice-cream for yourself. Be happy. HAVE EXCLAMATIONS in your life. Never possess a Full stop.
You're supposed not to touch the point of satiety and stay there throughout your life. Tragedies happen. Sadness wraps you. But, trust me, however captivating it may appear, it isn't worth it. Wipe off your tears. Move ahead. You're supposed to take yourself further using commas; keep it vivid using exclamations.
Shout.
Scream.
Yell.
Shiver.
Sweat.
But, don't stay there holding a full stop. Don't let any full stop stay near you.
'Full stops' often come with two hands, two legs and an envious heart.
After removing all those dull full stops from your life, reach out for others. Meet new, random people around you. Talk to them. Talk to them about their newly bought car; recently watched movie and the actress they hated; their dreams and desires; deep-hidden storms and fires. Extract the most out of them. Find out those wicked full stops which prevent them from succeeding in life and achieving all that they are able to.
Slowly and gradually, pick each of those full stops and replace it with a comma. Tell them not to stick to a particular phenomenon and keep wailing and grieving. Instead, tell them to move forward.
Hold their hand and take them out. Try. Extract. Mould. Never be a full stop.
You are a journey. An unplanned journey. Build up yourself in such a way that anyone who comes to you ,lives you. Teach something. Learn something. Never possess a full stop. You're a journey.
You're a mystery. No one should know you better than you know yourself. Mystery attracts. Don't get revealed that easily. Never possess a full stop. You're a mystery.
You're not a full stop!
Happiness is waiting for you, the next door. Few more steps to be taken. :)
Singsong your secret dreams and desires,
Bring out those deep-hidden storms and fires ;
You've to be your best version,
Not the person whom this world admires.
